Role summary
The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of
patients and will function under the direct and/ or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. This includes
caring for the patient, his possessions, documentation and the control and economical use of stock and
equipment in the ward.
Key work output and accountabilities
 Reporting to the Unit Manager at Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital, the appointee will display the following
but not limited to:
 Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with the SANC / Job Standards /
Hospital Policies
 Promote and maintain good working and inter-personal relationships with Management / patients / staff /
visitors / doctors and colleagues
 Co-ordinate nursing service activities with other departments
 Co-ordinate all working activities to accommodate normal hospital routine
 Perform other departmentally related duties
Skills profile
Education
 Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 Qualification
 Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary.
 Compliance with the SANC code for an Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary and all applicable Health Care
Legislations.
Work experience
 Experience in the relevant field of nursing advantageous.
 Flexible in working hours / shift work.
 The ability to communicate well at all levels
 The ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
 The ability to develop using collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goals
 The ability to actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals
 The ability to identify and understand issues, problems and opportunities in order to take appropriate
 action
 The ability to plan and organise work for self and others to ensure efficient completion
 The ability to produce work of a high quality standard by accurately checking processes and tasks
 The ability to maintain stable performance under pressure by handling stress in an acceptable way
Knowledge
 Thorough knowledge of general / specialized nursing theory and practice.
 Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in the highly specialised field of the
intensive care nursing
